The help organization and its foreign aid
Since 1990, the Urgenta Foundation has been involved in charity and foreign aid to Romania. In 2005 we've expanded our field of work to Moldova. First we started as a group of enthusiastic volunteers for the Foundation International Medical Aid (FIMA). Later on, we decided to form our own non-profit help organization. Our main goal is to improve hospital's medical and technical facilities in Eastern European developing countries like Romania and Moldova. We do this by initiating and carrying out development projects. The Urgenta Foundation is an non profit NGO, which consists only of volunteers and volunteering.
Goal of the charity work
Our main goal is to lift hospitals' facility services to a higher standard. On the one hand, the Urgenta Foundation likes to play an advisory role for implementing and executing development projects, assessments etc. in Eastern Europe (Romania and Moldova). On the other, we initiate and carry out charity projects ourselves as well. We carry out reorganizations, installation of medical equipment, assessments and we provide organizational aid to hospitals about what to change
Charity development projects in Romania
For some years now, we've have been in contact with the Clinical Hospital and Children's Hospital in the city of Sibiu, Romania. We've run numerous development projects in hospitals and sometimes in orphanages, aids homes and schools. Most were successful, some were not. There's also a particularly ambitious plan to build a new University Hospital in Sibiu. This will be a long-term project. All in all, a lot has changed in Romania the past few years. Mainly because of the future European Union membership, things are going fast lately.
Development aid project in Moldova
Late November 2004, we were contacted by a Dutch medical organization to see if we were interested in doing an assessment of medical and technical priority needs at two hospitals in the city of Chisinau (also known as Kishinev), Moldova. In May, the medical-technical recommendation report concerning development of the 4 hospitals was presented to the Local Healthcare Department Utrecht, the provence and municipal of Utrecht and the University of Utrecht.
Reports of placement abroad, volunteer work and medical internship abroad
On our site we offer an ever growing collection of reports about the volunteer work in Romania, a placement we arranged for 2 physiotherapy students and a medical internship we've set up for a medical student. It seems that arranging placements and internships abroad is becoming one of the core tasks of the Urgenta Foundation! We consider this to be community development aid in a broader perspective.
Sponsors, fundraising and finances
The Urgenta Foundation depends on volunteers and volunteering only. No one gets paid, including board members. This means that we do our own fundraising via sponsors, on line donation and fundraising parties. All our development projects are funded by other charity organizations, sponsors, grant making fundraisers, governments and companies. Soon we will publish our annual financial report.
International development aid requires multiple languages
We are involved in international aid and relief so more languages are needed than just plain English. Therefore we offer our resources and documents in het Nederlands and Romana as well
