Preliminary talks Urgenta Foundation 4 - 8 December, Sibiu Romania
University Hospital
Monday and Tuesday December 6th & 7th, the Urgenta Foundation had several meetings with the board and employees of the University Hospital Sibiu. Monday morning, a meeting with the General Manager, Dr. L. Cortarla, and the Manager Facility Services, Mr. Boros, was scheduled. Again, the Urgenta Foundation offered its sincere apologies for the translation error on their web site, which a local newspaper used to discredit Dr. Cortarla. This was a completely unintentional mistake made by our webmaster.
Furthermore, talks have been held about the upcoming projects of March/April 2005. Unfortunately, the Foundation had to inform the hospital the Project ICU Gynecology had to be cancelled due to insufficient funding. As far as the Project Reorganization Oxygen Facilities is concerned, the hospital's Technical Services department will carry out this project in cooperation with the Urgenta Foundation come spring. The Project Expansion Medical Gasses Facilities Neonatology has been somewhat extended. This project will be carried out by the Urgenta Foundation at the end of March. All other upcoming projects have been discussed.
A lot of changes and improvements have been done by the hospital itself, this year. For instance, the OR-center of both the surgery- and the intensive care departments has been renovated. The central kitchen had a makeover and several other departments have been redone, like cardiology and gynecology. We are very pleased to see all these developments. The management definitely takes matters in its own hands now and put the focus on qualitative improvements of buildings, technical installations etc. It gives a really amazing feeling to see, after 14 years since our first visit, the speed at which things develop and evolve here!
Further talks with the board didn't result in other concrete matters. Other meetings will be scheduled in March and April when the Urgenta Foundation is in Romania to carry out the 2005 projects.
Children's hospital
Wednesday and Thursday, we had scheduled some meetings with representatives from the Clinical Children's Hospital in Sibiu. Wednesday, we talked with Dr. Neamtu, General Manager, Mr. Mihut, Economical Director, and other employees of the hospital.
We talked extensively about the Project Expansion Medical Gasses Facilities at the neonatology department. This project will be carried out by the Foundation in March/April 2005. Other subjects of discussion were about the future plans of the Children's Hospital and the opportunities for the Urgenta Foundation to help out in any way. One of the plans concerns setting up a small dental clinic. We could support this plan through providing the hospital with two dental chairs. Other issues that came up were possible acquisitions of medical and technical equipment and installations.
We've got an overall good feeling about the Children's Hospital. All buildings and installations are well maintained, something we would like to see more often. There's a pleasant atmosphere, the work mentality is good, and everybody seems to be committed to the hospital. The donated backup power supply unit has been installed and it's very satisfying to be able to tell the donor the power unit has been put into operation!
